The credit crunch and rising interest rates in recent months are adversely affecting the fortune of Indian real estate industry. Banks and other financial institutions have tightened lending to real estate sector and developers are finding difficulty in arranging credit for project development. With the objective to evolve strategies for augmenting credit supply to real estate sector, a conducive and transparent policy approach which addresses the concerns of Bankers, FDIs, Private Equity Funds, Developers and the Govt., therefore, needs to be evolved. This calls for urgently considering ways and means to fund housing and real estate projects on the basis of merit and priority.
